YouTube is stepping up its game with a host of new content and ad features, unveiled at the 13th annual Brandcast event at David Geffen Hall, Lincoln Center. These updates are set to offer brands and creators even more ways to engage with audiences and drive viewership.
In a major collaboration with Google and Scripps Sports, YouTube TV will now feature locally televised WNBA Friday night games on ION in both home and away markets. Starting May 31 and continuing through the regular season, YouTube TV will be the only digital multichannel video programming distributor (dMVPD) carrying both local and national WNBA games as part of its Base Plan.
Expanding on a successful pilot from late 2023, YouTube is rolling out Creator Takeovers to more creators. This program allows brands to collaborate with top YouTube creators to secure a 100% share of voice on their channels, leveraging the strong connections between creators and their fans.
YouTube is introducing a new AI-powered ad format optimized for connected TV (CTV). This format utilizes non-skippable assets across in-stream inventory, designed to maximize reach and engagement on larger screens.
To enhance interactivity, YouTube has launched branded QR codes. These modernized QR codes put brands front and center, making it easier for viewers to engage directly with advertisers through their mobile devices.
Neal Mohan, CEO of YouTube, emphasized the platform's evolving role in the entertainment landscape, stating, “Creators are the new Hollywood. They are redefining TV genres and deserve the same recognition as traditional media professionals. It’s time a creator won an Emmy.”
Mary Ellen Coe, Chief Business Officer of YouTube, highlighted the unmatched engagement levels on the platform, noting that fans eagerly await new videos and engage deeply with content, presenting prime opportunities for brands.
